Gold Dusty Autopia Car Spotted on eBay

Autopia Gold DustyA lot of people have been asking about the Gold Dusty Autopia car that we wrote about back in May, 2005:

"The gold-colored Autopia Dusty car was produced in the year 2000. These cars were produced to commemorate the re-opening of the Chevron-sponsored Autopia ride at Disneyland in Anaheim, CA. There were only 1,000 of these cars made."

Autopia Gold Dusty"The cars were given as gifts to Chevron Executives and personnel that attended the opening and also to Disney Executives at the grand opening event. They were not in the traditional Chevron Cars packaging with the see-through blister, rather they were placed in a special commemorative blue velvet bag."

ChevronCars.com does not have these cars for sale, and they were never available for sale. From time to time we see one come up on eBay, and we spotted one that was posted for sale recently. The final selling price was $2,146.21.

You can view the Gold Dusty eBay listing here (screen capture of original ebay page): Gold Dusty sold on eBay.

I've been collecting from the beginning. I didn't know about the Gold Dusty, and I wouldn't pay $50 for it. I just got #1 hope car.
What I want to know is, when the heck is a new one coming out, and why is Chevron being so stingy with new vehicles? There are tons of suggestions for vehicles that haven't been done. If they want collectors they should know collectors expect things to collect!

Hello, I have a gold dusty, but I don't have the blue bag for it, I'm looking. It is in a custom made trophy case which I like better, but I would still like to find a bag for it. I found it on ebay, listed in the wrong catagory, the seller didn't know what he had. Don't give up, there still out there.

Where was the Autopia Gold Dusty made?

Is the "Infamous" "Gold Dusty" built on a "Dusty 2" chassis, thus marked accordingly? Or is it built on a unique chassis marked appropiately, "Gold Dusty #5"?

I collect toys, It would be nice to have all the Chevrons, but then it would be nice to have all the Hot Wheels, Matchbox, Hess trucks, etc. So I just buy what I can afford. Many, including some Chevron, I buy at yard sales, The fun is in having one, not the price it costs. Someday, maybe I'll have a golden Dusty, maybe, someday.

I have purchased a few limited addition cars from Berry in the past. I also saw the listing notifying people to keep an eye out for the Gold Dusty after Thanksgiving. I'm even on his sellers list so when the Gold Dusty turned up that Friday I knew about it right away! Yes I did bid on it, I want state my high bid but I was suppressible to see how high it actually ended at. This is the only car missing from my collection and I was really looking forward to finally having it. I think he timed this auction just right. Right before Xmas and also there were more then a few "want it now" listing for it that he also noticed. Otherwise I dont think it would have gone so high. I did email him about the history of the car and this is what he had to say.

" i worked for chevron from 1980 to last christmas and had come nice contacts. i picked up 2 immediately when they came out and another from an ebay seller a few years ago before people really knew about them. i saved everything related to the cars since they came out and now i am lucky they have become such nice collectables."

I was disappointed to see this care slip from my grasp, but hey thats half the fun of collecting right! Maybe next time :-)

I knew it was coming on ebay, because
he sold a hope (2001) on ebay and said
he wold be selling it on ebay. It's
up to $811.00. The starting bid was $50.00 dollars. I was watching for it
but it didn't come up. There are 25
bids.
